EcoCharge emerges from the dialogue among the different partners. By means of this dialogue we have been able to build a strong partnership designed to forge a robust alliance among local and European vocational education and training (VET) providers, focusing on the electric mobility sector in Malawi and Zambia. This initiative aims to enhance the capacity of VET providers, facilitating stronger cooperation between private and public stakeholders. It targets the development of demand-oriented and opportunity-driven VET interventions, addressing critical issues such as youth unemployment and gender disparities in access to education and vocational training.
Acknowledging the pressing global challenge of youth unemployment, exacerbated by factors like a booming population, limited educational opportunities, and a mismatch between the skills of the youth and market needs, this initiative seeks to mitigate the social and economic repercussions associated with high levels of youth unemployment, including poverty and the underutilization of human capital. In line with efforts to empower women and promote gender equality, the EcoCharge Partnership places a significant emphasis on supporting women’s entrepreneurship. It recognizes the barriers faced by women and aligns with the objectives of both governments to achieve economic equality and close the gender pay gap, as highlighted by UN Women Data Hub.
Moving beyond conventional educational methods, the partnership promotes the electrification of vehicles, such as electric bikes and light hybrids, through the innovative reuse of automotive industry materials. This not only minimizes waste and environmental impact but also aims to enhance vocational education by developing a workforce skilled in the design, assembly, and maintenance of electric bikes using recycled components This strategy supports sustainable practices, raises environmental awareness, and empowers students with valuable skills.
