VET Students Create a “Green Skills Decalogue” for Sustainable Workplaces
On 22nd November, a group of 12 Vocational Education and Training (VET) students participated in an engaging workshop aimed at designing a “Green Skills Decalogue.” The activity focused on identifying the key sustainability skills needed in professional environments and fostering teamwork and decision-making through collaboration.
A Collaborative Effort Towards Sustainability
The workshop began with a brief introduction, encouraging participants to reflect on their experiences during the recent “Changemaker Week” within the RAISE project in Armeria Eskola in Eibar. Students worked in small groups to explore sustainable practices they had observed in businesses and organisations they visited. Over the session, the students identified essential green skills across five main areas: resource optimisation, renewable practices, environmental assessment, ethical responsibility, and collaborative efforts.
Shaping the Green Skills Decalogue
After brainstorming and group discussions, participants shared their ideas, debated their relevance, and reached a consensus on the top ten skills. These skills were finalised into a visually appealing “Green Skills Decalogue,” ready to inspire sustainable practices in workplaces. The students also reflected on how they could apply these skills in their future careers, highlighting the practical impact of the workshop.
Empowering Tomorrow’s Changemakers
The activity encouraged critical thinking and collaboration and provided students with a tangible outcome—a decalogue to guide sustainability in their professional paths. This workshop exemplifies how education can actively equip future professionals with the skills to drive meaningful change in their communities and industries.
