Summary of the modules of the Erasmus+ SDG4BIZ project

Module 1: Recognition of business opportunities in the SDGs.
This module aims to identify the process of recognizing business opportunities. We define it as a non-linear and interactive process that leads to the identification and development of sustainable businesses. The module wants to find answers to these three questions:

  • What are the SDGs in the context of companies?
  • How are the SDGs applied to recognize business opportunities?
  • How to develop a business model based on the SDGs?

Module 2: Business opportunities in the field of food and agriculture
This module aims to help students take a holistic view of the entire food production system, from agriculture to consumers, and thus inspire them to look for new, more sustainable ways to meet people’s needs for food.
Provides content on the SDGs related to food and agriculture, agricultural policies, and their prospects. In addition, it provides a general understanding of the sector and the links between civil society and innovation. The module introduces life cycle thinking and the importance of food and agriculture in this systemic change. Another important pillar of the module is carbon capture and the sustainable use of peatlands and their role in sustainable agriculture and the business ecosystem. The module closes by addressing how to design the marketing strategy and the feasibility analysis and budgeting in agri-food companies.

Module 3: Business opportunities in cities
This module aims to recognize sustainable business opportunities in cities. After seeing the application of the SDGs in cities and their implementation in strategies at different levels (national, regional, city and even company), we move on to analyze more specific aspects that you must take into account when developing a model. sustainable business.
The module offers business model ideas in three main areas: the circular economy, mobility, and the “silver economy”. Each concept is defined in the field of cities and examples of sustainable companies are presented.

  • In the case of the circular economy, the waste of traditional material inputs derived from virgin resources is addressed with bio-based, renewable or recovered materials, reducing the demand for the extraction of virgin resources in the long term.
  • Regarding mobility related to cities, improving traffic fluidity, more sustainable vehicles, and the walkability of cities are objectives to take into account for the creation of new business models.
  • The “Silver Economy” is related to the socioeconomic effects and opportunities resulting from an aging population.

In addition to the materials in pdf format, you can watch the videos of module 3 on the Tknika/SDG4BIZ YouTube channel.

Module 4: Business opportunities in the field of energy and materials
This module offers students an overview of how specific European, national, and regional contexts influence the development of business opportunities related to sustainability and the SDGs, specifically in the energy, industrial, and materials sectors. Context analysis includes the study of the economic, social, and regulatory constraints that can shape business opportunities favorably or unfavorably and how to achieve them. To achieve this objective, the module will study examples of different functions in a company and how raising awareness about the SDGs can improve them.
The module offers ideas in the areas of green energy, sustainable construction, and sustainable and innovative materials.

Module 5: Business opportunities in the field of health and well-being
The pedagogical solutions presented in this module support innovation. It is a more practical module than the others. The learning that can be gained from this module 5 increases significantly if you do it together with your co-workers or study group.
Module 5 aims to create a link between business opportunities in the field of health and well-being and the participant’s own business field. The student will be asked to explore his or her business environment through the lens of the SDGs and become familiar with a concrete example of searching for a new business opportunity. In practice, the module consists of exploring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the case of business. The student is invited, for example, to explore their business environment taking into account global megatrends.

The authors of each module are identified in them.
