With the aim of emphasising the advantages of implementing Virtual Reality (VR) and other Extended Reality (ER) technologies in vocational training centres, the second meeting of the project took place in Donosti in the first week of October.

During these days, through different meetings, emphasis was placed on the benefits that the practical application of ER can have on VET students. The different visits and presentations that took place in the Virtual Area of Tknika and CIFP USURBIL LHII contributed to this, as the participants had the opportunity to test in situ the real applicability of ER.

Attendees had the opportunity to see the advantages of implementing VR and ER in areas such as administration, elderly care, welding and other industrial sectors.

Using Meta’s protoverse technology, namely WorkroomsVR, participants were able to connect to the Metaverse using Quest 2 HMDs (Head Mounted Displays). The meeting demonstrated that the added personalisation and customisation that the VR experience brings to a video conferencing meeting is significant. Not only was the meeting more efficient in terms of time, but it was also more effective in terms of decision making in the mock sales exercise carried out by the students in Usurbil. On the other hand, the MR (Mixed Reality) system based on Microsoft Hololens2 and the different applications of the company Innovae, demonstrated that the guidance and assistance using this technology is especially useful for the operators as their hands are free and they have a detailed explanation of the next step to be carried out superimposed on their vision, including the real-time status of the machine or tool they are using.

The next meeting will take place in Finland in March with the intention of specifying the possible collaborations that have been identified in these areas.
